When the player defeats a boss and obtains enough Warp Keys, two additional areas are unlocked. Each area is divided into three levels, with a boss at the end of the third level. However, the levels in this game are somewhat more linear, like in Papa Louie 1. There's also a customer at the end of each stage which must be rescued, after which he or she becomes a playable character. As in Papa Louie 2 and 3, Papa Louie 4 contains several themed areas (this game has seven), each one with a set of missions that the player must complete to earn Warp Keys. The gameplay for this game combines elements from all three of the platformers that came before it.
